Man of style - scarfing around

Hi hi sisters ....... Living in the most fashionable city in the world is probably the loveliest part of my stay in Tokyo. Fashion is not just clothes one puts on her back every morning, it's elevated to an art here. Elegant Tokyo women (and probably men too, hehe but not interested to look :) are so well co-ordinated from hair to outfit ensembles to accessories, as if they are stepping out from a fashion magazine. It also helps that the weather is more moderate here in comparison to other cities in the Northern Hemisphere.

For someone coming from the frigid north where bracing subzero temperature was a daily ritual, the one and only fashion (& survival) motto was simply not to get frozen like a popsicle. My fashion routine was cleverly pat down to wrapping 5 layers under a thick warm blanket before heading out in the blowing blizzard. Now, that doesn't mean everyone has to cram their style looking like a puffy 'Michelin Man' like me. One of the most stylish and practical piece of winter clothing is the scarf (says who? hehe, our MinHyung of course :) There are so many ways to tie it elegantly around the neck and shoulder to enhance one's face and provide warmth ...... as modelled by the most handsome man @@ Please enjoy :)

The classic!

The pre-classic :)

The pre-pre-classic :) Do you notice the way Jaeho's scarf was tied, it was the same way as MinHyung's?! So the style was created before Winter Sonata, just that only 1 scarf was used in HWRL instead of 2 scarves of different shades.

I love his Papa time, so scholarly handsome!

His Manstar looks were irresistable @@

His SkyPerfectv ad, hehe, he likes putting his hands close to his face, eh?

I know some people don't like this picture, but I really like the way the scarf was wrapped around the face.

same here!Hahaha well, this is only acceptable when temp falls below -20C, huh? Otherwise hiding such a beautiful face is a sin! 1 of my favourites Could this be his favourite pic since he autographed it all the time, or maybe they just over-printed it and have to finish using all copies?? Just kidding, he looked so cool and sexy here!Remember these 'Image' pictures, so 'light and breezy', such a tropical feel!
Some other interesting ways he wore his scarf
I still can't figure out what this braided thingy is at the back? Hehe, I have a feeling he won't be wearing it again, at least not in public appearance :) His recent picture, elegant as usualI like this very cool and ultra long mufflerThis is my favourite, the scarf just casually draped to one side, maybe it's sliding off?

Hi Jaime,

Thanks for the entertaining scarf retrospective. I too like the last one, not just the scarf or the man in it but the feel of the picture, so happy!

Maybe it's a good time to ressurect an old link from Quilt: It shows how to tie a muffler in the "twister" style, like Ming Hyung.

I hope everyone stays toasty warm, no matter what!

Hi Jim, how are you?,
Hey, is that all images Bae is beautifully dressed, from very small as in Min Hyung Dad in Sky Perfect, even where it is seen in a warmer environment, which I especially love it.
And indeed there is no worse sin than not to show his face so beautiful.
Wrap up well, watch out for these days so cold, why not? with a scarf like Min Hyung.
Cecy fondly Mexico.

Hi Jaime,
I was busy with the job, but i was reading each of your posts.
Glad to read this one specially, the reason is that i love the scarves, and I love to see our prince wearing them.
I think one of the best things from the 2009 in my life was to met BYJ and his family. And i know that it a little late but i want to wish you Happy New Year!!!, God Bless you my lady sis.

I love the one with the grey coat, grey scarf and camera when he's looking like he's deep in thought. I actually went out and bought myself a grey pea coat and grey scarf just to mimic that look.

I also giggled at the one where he's wearing the white shirt and black/white scarf. He looks like he's playfully saying

"Don't make me look stupid or I'll knock your lights out!" LMAO!

In that last picture, we see his secret to perfect scarf placement...a pin.

Hi Jaime

Love all these pix, and esp. the one YJ autographs on . . . he looks so sexy in that pix. I think he'd love to look scruffy, if he doesn't have to keep a clean image, hehehe

Dear Jaime and Bae sisters:

Greetings inspite of the snowfall outside my window, a wind tunnel in front of the hotel, and the Arctic cold wave for the next five days.
I have been reading the news of the worst winter in England and in Korea, too.
I hope you are keeping healthy and warm in layers of clothing accessorized with Bae Yong Joon inspired mufflers and scarves.
But how does one wrap around a woolen blanket, Jaime, please demonstrate again with fashionable Bae Yong Joon. It will be very creative research!

Hi gosijo,

Thanks for the link on 'how to' tie the Minhyung muffler. I have memorized that technique deep in my heart :) But interestingly you know what, Yong Joon himself does not know how to tie it! I watched the DVD of his Hong Kong trip during Untold Scandal promotion, he was presented a scarf and he tried to wrap it like in WInter Sonata, he laughed and gave up :) Hehe, I guess he doesn;t need to know how to do it since he has a stylist.

Have a good week!

Hi Cecy,

Sorry for the late reply. I am happy you like MinHyung's scarf too. Hehe, you can still wear scarf like when his Image pictures in Mexico, right?

Hi Hyds,

Yes, I think scarf is very elegant if it is worn appropriately. I never wear much scarf except to keep myself warm in winter. Recently, I take an interest in wraps/shawls. I find they are very practical.

Please keep yourself warm!

Hi Tamar,

You like to replicate some of his looks, huh? I still remember that cross necklace. Oh yes, a pin, how come I didn;t think of that? I thought his scarf is just sliding to one side :)

cheers .... jaime

Hi alcy,

I think you are right, hehe, eventhough I have no idea either. Yong Joon probably favors a very casual, natural look when nobody is around. Haha, if he were a Japanese man, I would not be surprised that he'll just wear a yukata at home :)

Hi Hi karen

so sorry for my late reply. Please take it easy with your busy schedule. Sigh, i am so embarassed with my postings, the backlog on my trips have to date back to 2 years ago, starting from Seoul!
I promise to write them out one by one eventually. Why? Are you thinking of going to Taiwan soon?

Haha Josephine,

Do you want to try to wrap a blanket too, like Yong Joon? He did have a picture of that during the filming of First Love!
Please take care in the frigid cold weather!
